CHOSEN - day 3

CHOSEN - day 3

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” -Genesis 1: 27

What does it mean to be created in the image of God? I used to think it meant that we all looked like God. That God had a nose and eyes just like ours; that He had ten fingers and ten toes. I’ve come to the realization that to be made in God’s image does not mean that God looks like a human but rather it means that God made our personhood out of the image of Himself.

God has a mind, will and emotions so being made in the image of Him means that we do too! Humans value beauty so much. It is everywhere you look! Almost every product and advertisement is made with beauty in mind. This makes a lot of sense because God is the creator of beauty. He is a creative God and likewise we are a creative people. God is also righteous and just. He put in us a sense of morality so that we know what is good and bad, just and truth. Despite differences in culture and language, around the world the sense of morality is pretty much the same. It is like a universal language! Humans are also very relational. We naturally desire friendship and family to go through life with. Being without people around us for a long period of time can cause deep loneliness, sadness and stress. In the same way God is very relational. He desires to know you and be in friendship with you. He loves you deeply and wants to spend time with you.

Isn’t it an amazing thing to be made in the image of God? Just your existence is so beautiful but God wants more than your existence He wants your heart. When you give your heart over to Jesus He will make it so much more beautiful than you could ever imagine.

Prayer

Dear God, thank you for creating me in your image. I am so honoured that you chose to create me. Jesus I give you my heart and life so that you can transform it into something so beautiful that I could never comprehend. Help me to live in your ways and not in my own. I love you so much. Amen.
