But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” - 1 Samuel 16:7
The worldly idea of beauty tells us that we have to look a certain way in order to be liked. It doesn’t matter about our hearts, we just have to look good. But God’s beauty tells us that it does not matter what we look like, what matters is our hearts.Godly beauty will always triumph over worldly beauty because God is the creator of all beauty.
I think it is time that we take all the time and energy we spend focusing on our outward appearance and focus instead on our hearts. Is your heart beautiful? Do you love what the Lord loves and hate what the Lord hates?
Do you value worldly beauty over Godly beauty?
I encourage you to ask God to search your heart. Ask Him if there is anything in your heart that is offensive to Him. Wait patiently and see if anything comes to mind. If something comes to mind, ask for forgiveness and then ask God for His help in turning away from that sin. This is a hard thing to do and it can feel very vulnerable but remember that God is a good God and He loves you so much. He never brings shame but He does bring conviction so that you can live at a higher standard that He is calling you to.
Prayer:
Dear Jesus, I do not want to live for the world’s version of beauty but I want to live for Godly beauty. Would you make my heart beautiful according to your ways, Lord. Help me to turn away from anything that is offensive to you. I want to live a life devoted to you and to Godly beauty. I love you Lord Jesus. Amen.
